Top Suit Trends for 2024: What’s In and What’s Out
Although tailored suits are known for their timeless style, they’re not completely immune from trends of the moment. And while the garments themselves don’t change too much, the finishing details and silhouette does. Here, we break down the top suit trends for 2024 (and beyond) so you can keep your suit collection up to date.
A relaxed silhouette
The most significant shift in suit style in 2024 - heck, really over the past few years - has been a move away from hyper tailored styles to a more relaxed, casual silhouette. In the 2000s and 2010s, tailoring erred towards skin tight styles that accentuated an inverted triangle shape around the torso, cinching at the waist. This was often paired with extremely slim cut trousers and more cropped jacket styles.
However, as dress codes have relaxed - particularly in the workplace - we’ve seen this style be relaxed with sportier, slouchier tailoring that’s designed for comfort. Specifically, this has shown up in looser, less-structured garments like straighter cuts of jackets and wider legged trousers that hark back to the styles originally popularised by the likes of Armani and Calvin Klein in the 90s.
This has also given way to trending suit styles like pairing tailored pieces with modern day workwear like singlets, t-shirts and sneakers. In short, it’s less about looking 100% put together and much more about feeling comfortable and at ease in the clothes you’re wearing.
Lighter construction
Reflecting this looser fit is another of the latest men’s suit styles in 2024: a far lighter construction. Half lined or unlined jackets do away with the traditional interior layer of fabric in the back of the garment which creates a more fluid and slouchier look.
Perfect for Summer, this style of jacket maximises breathability as air is easily able to pass through the single layer outer shell to the wearer. This is particularly common in the increasingly popular Neapolitan school of tailoring which opts for softer finishes like rounded - versus corded - shoulders.
A move to neutrals
The final suit trend - particularly for professionals - in 2024, is a move towards warmer, more neutral tones. This is increasingly common in tailored separates such as chinos or sports coats and injects a more casual feel to the sometimes severe corporate wardrobe palette.
During the cooler months, we’re seeing this show up through a combination of block colours - think chocolate browns & sage - alongside richly coloured patterned fabrics like windowpane checks in creams, rusts and camels.
