Texture Meets Sophistication: Exploring Linen and Wool Suits at Oscar Hunt

Unlike our friends in the Northern hemisphere who often experience stark contrasts in seasons, Australia is relatively blessed when it comes to weather. While there’s some fluctuation, on the whole it’s pretty temperate and what this means in the world of tailored suits is that most pieces can be worn year around.

However, just because our suiting collections are trans seasonal doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have some variety in the wardrobe. This week, we’re diving into some of the key textures and fabrics to wear when Spring is knocking on the door. Let’s jump in!

Linen suiting

Linen suiting

When the weather starts to warm up, there’s one fabric that comes to mind almost immediately for us here at Oscar Hunt: linen. Versatile, comfortable and undeniably chic, it’s a cloth that epitomises the warmer months and invariably gets us thinking about all the fun that the period embodies.

When it comes to choosing the right linen suit for you, we generally advise looking for a linen-blend suit. Generally mixed with either silk or wool, this fabrication has all the nonchalance of a traditional linen suit but counteracts some of the crumpling that can occur in a 100% linen garment.

Perfect for everything from a Spring wedding to an end of year work function, linen suits will hold you in good stead for most of the events that this time of year has to throw at you.

Wool suiting

Now, when people hear ‘wool’ they usually think of Winter, associating it with woollen jumpers and beanies. In suiting though, wool actually has a dual function, working to keep the wearer warm in Winter and, in contrast, drawing moisture away from the body in Summer to keep the wearer cool.

In this sense, it’s a bit of a miracle fibre and perfect if you are seeking a truly versatile suit for changing seasons. What’s more, wool can often have a delicate sheen to it which adds a degree of polish to a suit, making it perfect for more traditional corporate settings or more formal engagements.

If you’re looking to have a custom Spring suit made from wool, we generally recommend opting for a softer colour to match the season. Think pale greys or denim blues which look sensational offset against either a crisp white shirt or a bolder stripe pattern.
