Seasonal Suit Trends: What’s Hot in Sydney Right Now
With Australian Fashion Week just behind us and the start of Winter underway, the team at Oscar Hunt felt it high time that we reflect on the key trends we’re seeing in tailored suiting in Sydney this season. Here, we’ll dive into key colour palettes and the latest in how taste makers are wearing their tailored pieces. Let’s dive into our Sydney suit style guide!
Winter whites
In the harbour city, there’s a natural inclination to the nautical when it comes to the shades that we favour in our wardrobes, and there’s no exception during the cooler months. This year, one of the key seasonal suit trends that we’re witnessing in Sydney is a focus on lighter colours and whites in particular.
Often styled with a mixture of creams and brilliant whites, it’s a sure fire way to cut a striking figure and deliver a clean, put together ensemble. Our personal favourite is seeing white suits layered over turtleneck sweaters or half-zips for a look that is as elegant as it is cosy.
High-low styling
While it’s not strictly a seasonal fashion in Sydney suits - we’ve seen this happening over the past few years - it does feel as if it’s become increasingly prominent. So, what do we actually mean by high-low styling? In short, it’s the pairing of more polished pieces - like a two-piece suit - with more everyday athletic or work wear. Think a suit jacket layered over a ribbed singlet or suit trousers paired with a pair of chunky sneakers.
For us, this is the perfect way to reinvent a standard suit ensemble and can inject new life into existing pieces within the wardrobe.
Layering
One of the latest suit trends that we’ve seen in Sydney is the growth of layering over traditional suiting. Perfect for adding that additional layer of warmth on chilly mornings, this can be done most elegantly by draping a knitted sweater over the shoulders of a suit. We like to see the sleeves left unknotted as it adds a certain insouciance to the outfit and imbues it with a carefree feel.
For a more casual look, we’re also seeing a lot of layering of undergarments too. Think a tank paired with an open shirt and a boxier, looser fitting blazer over the top. This makes for a refreshingly contemporary interpretation of tailoring and is perfect for those occasions that call for a casual yet fashion forward dress code.
