Casual Tailoring for Travel: Comfortable and Stylish Options
It can often feel like the words ‘style’ and ‘comfort’ are completely opposed to one another. After all, comfort tends to invite images of track suits while style summons an all together different kind of garment. However! We’re here this week to make the case that the two can harmoniously coexist - especially when it comes to casual suits for travelling.
In this article, we’re breaking down how you can achieve the perfect casual tailoring for travel including what fabrics to pick and what fit to opt for. Let’s dive in!

The brief
Let’s start right at the beginning; your initial consultation. At Oscar Hunt, we pride ourselves on using this time to not only understand what kind of suit you’re after but also what your day-to-day looks like. If you’re someone who travels regularly for work, this helps inform the kind of recommendations that the team ultimately makes and steers you in the right direction.

The fabric
As part of this appointment, we’ll also share a range of different fabric options with you. Generally when it comes to travel we recommend opting for lighter types of cloth that will ultimately make for more lightweight travel suits (helping you avoid any risk of tipping over the baggage limit).
Outside of weight, we also look for fabrics that offer a combination of durability and wrinkle resistance. While you might be flying through the night to get to your next meeting, there is absolutely no reason your suit should look like it has too! Typically, this directs us towards wool (which is both breathable and highly crease-resistant) in a Super 110 or 120.

The fit
A travel suit is so much more than a suit - it doubles up as loungewear, a cocktail party outfit, and even light activewear (depending on how far away the gate is). Knowing this, our team suggests a slightly looser fit that ultimately makes for both more comfortable tailored clothing and a more pleasant journey. After all, there is nothing less comfortable than sitting in a seat for 8 hours in trousers that pinch your waist.
Beyond mere comfort though, a looser fit can also increase the versatility of your casual suit, making the jacket just as easy to wear with matching trousers as with a t-shirt and a pair of jeans.
