Brisbane’s Top Tailors: Crafting Perfect Custom Suits
When it comes to crafting a custom suit in Brisbane, you want someone who has local knowledge. And that’s because there’s no one who quite understands the weather, lifestyle, and demands of a city like the people who live there themselves.
You might well wonder what that has to do with tailored suits, but you’d be surprised to discover just how important an understanding of where a suit is going to be worn is as part of the made-to-measure process. Particularly if you’re planning to invest in one. Here, we dive into the detail of what sets Oscar Hunt apart in this respect and give you the lowdown on what to expect when you swing by our Teneriffe showroom.
The consultation
For every client, we kick off with a 45 minute consultation where one of our expert fitters will help you narrow down the brief of exactly what you’re after. As part of this, they’ll cover off whether the suit is for a specific occasion, what specific styles you are most drawn to and when and where you’re ultimately planning to wear it.
With Brisbane’s semi tropical climate, this is particularly important as it feeds into the next phase of the process which is where we start to consider elements like the fabric that the suit will be made from and what kind of construction it’ll be.
Both of these play a significant role in not only how the suit looks when you wear it but also how comfortable it feels.
The fabric selection
For our clients who are locals and are planning on wearing their luxury tailoring around town, we generally steer them towards more open weaves of fabric that allow air to pass easily between outside and the body of the wearer, ensuring that they stay cool and comfortable.
Let us be clear; this doesn’t mean we steer everyone towards casual Summer fabrics like linen. We still use more traditionally formal cloth like wool but we pay extra attention to the weight of the weave as there’s nothing worse than feeling like you’re boiling in your own suit.
The construction
Men’s suit fashion more broadly has started leaning towards less structured styles of tailoring, where the fabric moves fluidly around the wearer versus looking more rigid. This is inspired by Neapolitan suiting which typically does away with shoulder pads and is usually half lined (meaning that the inner lining only covers the top of the chest and back.)
This is particularly conducive to the Brisbane climate as it again maximises airflow and also aligns with the laid back vibe of a Queensland lifestyle.
